Okinawan
Masters At the heart of Okinawan karate-do lie the basic principles of peace, harmony, non-aggressiveness and respect for others. The master teachers have traditionally taught that the physical pursuits of training must also be balanced by the study of the metaphysical or philosophical. Here are examples of some of the thoughts of the Okinawan masters, Sokun Matsumura, Anko Itosu, Choshin Chibana, Shinpan Gusukuma (Shiroma), and Katsuya Miyahira, representing a span of nearly 200 years of teaching and study, and illustrating the philosophical spirit of karate-do. |
