Training Sessions

2007 NTS Group

Shido-kan Karate Sessions

NTS will be led by our head master teacher, Seikichi Iha, Hanshi, 10th Dan, along with Shido-kan Sensei’s and seniors from around the globe.

During the seminar, youth and adult participants will have the opportunity to do in-depth training to improve knowledge and skills in fundamentals of Shido-kan technique, understanding kata, kumite and one-on-one partnership drills and bunkai (group application of kata). In addtion, youth participants will have the opportunity to participate in a Saturday afternoon kata tournament.

This event is intended for all ranks and ages. Seminar sessions are designed so that anyone, no matter what rank or age, will benefit and learn. Most importantly, you'll have a chance to meet and renew contacts with fellow students and teachers from around the world.

Accommodations & Parking

Phillips Hall, MSU

Campus housing will be located a short 10-15 minute walk east of the Circle IM building at the newly remodeled historic Mason-Abbot Snyder-Phillips "Red Cedar" dorms. (Landon Hall and the dorms of the East Circle dorm complex, our past NTS dorm location, will be closed during a 3-year rennovation project.) Reasonably-priced dorm rooms and the beautiful new "Gallery" cafeteria dining area in a scenic housing area of MSU's picturesque campus will again be offered as part of the "Full Package" option. You can also opt to select the "Seminar & Events Package" if you prefer to arrange your own local housing or to commute. Links to other local area lodging options are provided in the "Quick Links to Seminar Information" section below.

Parking on MSU Campus
Parking is in short supply on the MSU campus during business hours (M-F from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) On Saturday and Sunday parking is free. People housed in the dorms can purchase parking passes as they check into housing and park in designated areas near the dorm. Note that vehicles parked in employee spots without a permit are subject to towing (and large fees!) To see parking locations, refer to the online MSU parking map from the MSU Department of Public Safety and the MSU Destinations map.

MSU Campus is quite large and summer construction is underway in many locations -- please print and study the maps and make sure you know where you need to be in advance!

Following are NTS parking options for weekdays between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.:

  1. MSU lot 75 (free), located near the southwest corner of Harrison and Kalamazoo.
  2. MSU gated pay lot 62W, located north of the Stadium on Red Cedar Drive (no time limit; $1.60 per hour between 8-5; free all other times.)
  3. Metered parking spots near campus buildings (2 to 4-hour time limits; rates vary; free before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m.)
  4. A one-day visitor pass may be purchased for $5 per day. These are valid at the Stadium lot (62W) or MSU employee parking spots (very limited during weekdays!) If you want to reserve a parking pass in advance to purchase at registration, contact Marian Reiter at mmreiter@aol.com at least a week before NTS.
