Karate Gi Sizing Charts and Suggested Washing Instructions Following are measurements and suggested sizing provided by the gi manufacturers. Measurements are in inches and before washing. Measurements are for reference only personal preferences on fit vary widely. In general, a roomy gi is more comfortable to train in than a gi that is too tight. (Shureido suggests that you allow 6-8" extra shoulder width for ease of movement.) Gi's listed below are 100% cotton depending on your washing style, allow 1-3" extra pant length and 2" to 6" extra on arm span measurement for shrinkage. If the sleeves or pant legs on your new gi are too long, wash a few times before shortening them to your preferred length. Washing in cold water without bleach and air drying will prevent shrinkage and greatly extend the life of your karate gi. You may find it helpful to consult with your instructor or others in your dojo who have had years of experience washing and training in different brands and styles of karate gi.
